The successful PDF will be engaged in a project related to physical layer security either from an information or a communication theoretical point of view. Candidates with strong analytical skills in wireless communication theory ‎ are encouraged to apply.‎ The successful PDF must hold a PhD In Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or other relevant disciplines. ‎A high level of self-motivation, a strong publication record, very good English communication skills (oral and writing), and the ability to work independently, as well as, in a team are essential. The successful PDF may also be actively engaged in student mentoring. He/she will also be required to deliver regular reports related to the associated grant.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow within the area of secure and reliable distributed storage systems to join our team of senior and junior researchers in the information theory section of Simula@UiB, Bergen, Norway. A solid background on error-control coding, distributed storage systems, and/or information-theoretic security is required.

Working as part of a research group, the Research Associate/Fellow will focus on development of new frameworks for distributed storage systems including the design of distributed storage systems that integrate efficiency, security and sustainability. Outcomes of the project are expected to improve the performances of data storage applications, including file sharing, content distribution networks, and distributed sensing networks. The appointee will have the opportunity to be involved in supervision of research students and participate in a variety of research projects within Institute for Telecommunications Research (ITR).

This position will use information-theoretic methods to better understand spatiotemporal patterns in data taken from social-insect colonies making group-level decisions. We are particularly interested in the use of information dynamics and active information storage (e.g., transfer entropy) to visualize centers of computation, information acquisition, and information storage across colonies of ants in two-choice decision tasks. However, this project is very transdisciplinary, cutting across computational modeling, complex adaptive systems, networks, dynamical systems, behavioral ecology, and information theory; consequently, we are very interested in the unique contributions of a motivated postdoc. This NSF-funded project is focused on fundamental science of collective decision making in natural systems. However, there are broader impacts of this work that stretch from novel architectures for distributed information processing in engineered systems to understanding the emergence of information processing at the origins of life itself.
